NATURAL
PROCESS: The Natural Process is a
process existing in
or produced by
nature (rather than by the
intent of
human beings).
Natural material is any
product or physical
matter that comes
from plants and animals used
to make
other objects or products. Not
artificial or foreign; the natural body;
natural color.
The meaning of “Natural” on a
label is anything derived from nature
SYNTHETIC PROCESS:
The Synthetic process is
man-made
fibers containing chemicals like
herbicides, stain-resistant solvents and
fire-retardants. If you're sleeping on a typical bed you're
breathing chemical gasses emitted by your mattress while you
sleep the night away.
ORGANIC COTTON PROCESS:
From the beginning at the
agricultural level, certified organic
cotton is:
| • |
Grown in soil where pesticides have
not been used for at least three years
or longer. |
| • |
Compost and other organic matter
enrich the soil and replace synthetic
fertilizers, and weeds are controlled by
innovative farm machinery and
old-fashioned hand-to-earth labor or
flame devices rather than herbicides. |
| • |
Farms practice frequent crop
rotation and introduce beneficial
insects in place of pesticides that
effectively prey on insects that damage
crops. |
| • |
In Regions where the harvest of the
crops must be accelerated, only
certified natural stimulants can be used
in conjunction with water deprivations
in order to imitate the natural growing
season. The certification process for
the growth and harvest of cotton in order
to qualify as “Organic”“ requires
farmers to use biologically- based
rather than chemically- based growing
systems to raise and harvest their
crops. |
| • |
Additionally, the production process
does not introduce any additional toxic
chemicals, or dyes, that are left in the cotton fibers. |
| • |
The benefits of organic cotton
farming are two fold. One, because there
are no harmful chemicals used in the farming process, there are no
lingering chemicals in the products you
buy at the store. Two, organic farming
and manufacturing processes are not
destructive to the environment or Earth
ecosystems. |
CERTIFIED ORGANIC WOOL PROCESS:
In order for wool to be
certified organic - it must be
produced in accordance with federal
standards for organic livestock
production
Federal Requirements For Organic
Livestock Production Include:
| • |
Livestock feed and forage used from the last 3rd stage of gestation must be certified organic. |
| • |
Use of synthetic hormones used and genetic engineering is prohibited. |
| • |
Use of synthetic pesticides(internal, external, and on pastures)is prohibited. |
| • |
Producers must encourage livestock health through good cultural and management practices. |
Organic Livestock Management Is Different From Non-Organic Management In At Least 2 Ways:
| 1. |
Sheep cannot be dipped in insecticides to control pesticides such as ticks and lice |
| 2. |
Organic livestock producers are required to ensure the natural carrying capacity of the land on which their animals graze. |
Third-party certification
organizations verify that organic pro- ducers use only METHODS AND MATERIALS
ALLOWED IN ORGANIC PRODUCTION.
